TFN 2025 Schedule

TUESDAY

Tuesday morning will start at 9:00 with a book club discussion (book to be announced in early 2025) followed by a part one of our workshop with Rachel Larsen Weaver. After lunch, we’ll jump back into working with Rachel. The rest of the afternoon will feature panel discussions in which our community contributors will give mini talks on various topics (listed below).

After a dinner break, we will come back to the Deacon for a family game night.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday morning we will start at 9:00 again, this time with a round of speed-dating style website reviews, after which we will head into our workshop with Jyotsna Bhamidipati. After lunch, we’ll continue our work with Jyo, diving into our own self portraits.

Our day will wrap up with a group discussion on money, pricing structures, and sustainability. This will be an open and honest conversation guided by a handful of our community members willing to speak openly about their business numbers, who represent different pricing structures and models. After a dinner break we will gather back at the Deacon for a dance party!

MONDAY

We will start at The Deacon at 4:00 kicking things off with a scavenger hunt through the neighborhood. After a dinner break, we will jump right into the good stuff with an opening talk with Lucy Baber.

THURSDAY

Thursday is live-demo day! Bring your coffee to the living room Thursday morning and watch Jenna Elliott give a live editing demo. Jenna’s editing style is clean, colorful and gives serious film vibes. Wanna know how she does it? This is your chance to learn.

Following that demo, we will have rotating live sessions: Rachel Larsen Weaver will be leading a session on film, Amy Sanusi will lead an intimate maternity session, and Cornell Watson will shoot headshots for each attendee, while others watch him work.

We’ll wrap up our time together with a big group lunch, final Q&A and, of course, a round of I Just Have to Say (iykyk).

Official programming will end at 2:00 on Thursday. However, anyone not racing off to the airport will be welcome to hang until 4:00 pm and invited to do “a show-and-tell shoot out.”

A Thursday night sleepover add-on will be available for anyone who would like to stay an additional night at The Deacon and hang with their friends for a night of recapping, processing and decompressing.

  • "Love is a combination of care, commitment, knowledge, responsibility, respect and trust." - Bell Hooks

Sometimes the struggle to connect with our creativity is in part due to our inability to connect with our intuition. We spend so much time in our heads that we forget to get into our bodies- the place where that intuition lives. In this workshop we will consider ways to come into a loving relationship with our bodies as a way to tap into that intuition and also as a way to be able to create with others in a way that feels more intimate and powerful.

Often when we want to work our way through creative slumps or burnout, we move into our heads, when Rachel believes the solution is instead to reconnect with our bodies. There is often difficulty reconnecting to our bodies when we have kind of controlling relationships with them. Rachel will guide us in a discussion about how we come into a more loving relationship with our bodies as a way of tapping into our intuition and creating from a more sustainable place. And then we'll dig into how that impacts the way that we are able to create with others.

Coming to loving terms with ourselves is a radical act that allows us to begin to fight systems of oppression and create authentic work.

  • Over the last seven years Jyo has been finding ways to document the self through gentle exploration of identity, culture, duality and introducing her heritage to her children through various self portrait projects. Self portraits brought to light a new life in Jyotsna’s self love journey and motherhood experiences after the birth of her second child. Whether she used her camera or iphone, whether she was experimenting with a new light setup or channeling some cultural experiences through portraiture; self portraits have always provided a calm in life’s chaos, helping Jyo to take some time for herself.

In the workshop Jyo leads, we will discover ways to examine the stories in our life that matter most to us, identifying a story/connection to ourselves that holds great meaning, and we will explore how self portraiture can provide creative value through documenting these stories. Participants will then have the opportunity to watch Jyo photograph herself, and will have time to practice their own self portraits, and receive guidance and feedback in the process.
